Maryvale on the Move

During the first few months of 2010, the Maryvale on the Move partners convened a series of community design workshops, “charrettes,” for the purpose of providing Maryvale and Canyon Corridor children, teens, adults, and senior adults with the opportunity to identify issues and potential solutions to enhance the viability of Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL).

Approximately 200 community members took part in the charrettes, and at the end of May, 50 key residents accepted the invitation to engage in an additional planning process to prioritize the issues raised during the charrettes and initiate their transformation into the operational work plan of the Maryvale on the Move initiative, which was drafted in July 2010. The community parters and the resident constituencies affiliated with each will continue to take the lead in terms of developing goals and objectives and in guiding their implementation, to increase the availability and consumption of healthy foods, to enhance the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists in neighborhoods, and to improve access to recreational resources for children and families.
